Propulsion Systems
The development and improvement of transport fuel properties depends on the application of advanced combustion measurement techniques and the detailed numerical simulation of the combustion characteristics of fuel components and mixtures. This is an important topic on a global scale and also in the Brazilian scenario, where different sources of oil and different biofuels can be used as the basis for fuels for the mobility sector. This project is related to the Combustion research line of the Postgraduate Program in Mechanical Engineering at UFSC. This line of research benefits from laboratory infrastructure implemented at UFSC through the execution of research projects made possible by ANP resources through PETROBRAS. The developments foreseen in this project aim to analyze combustion properties that support the development of fuels at PETROBRS. Samples of fuels, pure chemical species and their mixtures will be subjected to combustion tests and their combustion characteristics will be numerically simulated using appropriate kinetic models. The results, in the form of combustion characteristics databases, will benefit the development of fuels suitable for high-performance, high-efficiency and low-emission engines to be developed and implemented on the market in the coming decades.
