The project aims at the development of innovative solutions for the flight control system of aircraft using digital hydraulic actuators. By utilizing digital hydraulics in actuators that control the flight control surfaces of aircraft, energy efficiency is significantly improved, as this technology allows for the creation of systems with non-resistive hydraulic control. In this way, the dissipation of hydraulic energy into thermal energy can be reduced, minimizing hydraulic fluid cooling systems, lowering installed power and component weight, and consequently reducing fuel consumption, thus decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. Flight simulator tests will allow the analysis of the dynamic performance of the developed actuation systems on aircraft control, as well as the analysis of fault detection strategies and their compensation. This project is part of the Brazil-Sweden bilateral cooperation, serving as the Brazilian counterpart to the research already underway at Linkping University (LiU) with funding from VINNOVA.
