1st Annual Cycle

Period: 2017 -2018

The 1st Annual Cycle of SC2C.Aero comprehend the interval of May 2017 to June 2018, including the context of pilot cycle. In this first opportunity, the convergence center went to the field to put into practice the competences listed for SC2C.Aero, occasion where for the first time it was able to face and cooperate with the agents of the triple helix involved in the aerospace sector. The most relevant activities developed along that cycle are presented in the following sections.

Results:

1- Demand Seach:

In this cycle, the focus of the convergence center was meetings with managers of R&D&I in companies of the aerospace sector situated in Brazil and legal representatives of the government. Due to the time frame and focus of this research, in addition to geographic distribution, companies located in Santa Catarina, companies in São José dos Campos and government representatives in Brasília were prioritized. Based on contacts already stablished by the people from SC2C.Aero, 14 companies were mapped and 11 effectively visited, including 02 companies in Santa Catarina (Horus Aeronaves, WEGA Aircraft),  06 companies in São José dos Campos  (Akaer, Avibras, Boeing, Eleb, Embraer, Konatus) and 03 government agencies in Brasília (The Ministry of Defense, The Ministry of Sciences, Technologies, Innovations and Communications, Embassy of Sweden).

In order to collect the demand from industries, the search was structured upon the main question:
What are the main topics of concern in the aerospace industry that can be developed by the convergence center SC2C.Aero?

The answers were grouped into different kinds of indexing, formatting a high value spreadsheet that were shared exclusively with the technical groups and partners upon request. Some of these indexers are listed below:
by Company;

  • by Topic of interest;
  • by Taxonomy;
  • by Theme.

Two distributions, by Taxonomy and by Theme, are presented below.

Information contained in these topics has considerable value for proposing projects to the industry or for boosting innovation within technical groups, aligning their internal actions with the industry’s interests.

2 – Offer Capacity Validation:

In order to collect the offer from Santa Catarina’s technical groups, a questionnaire was structured based upon the question:
What are the highlight competences of interest in the aerospace industry that can be provided by Technical Groups of SC2C.Aero?

Technical groups with a history of cooperation with the industry and who show interest in participating in SC2C.Aero were the targets of this first collection of offers. A total of 17 groups (14 from UFSC and 3 from CERTI) were identified and 11 answered the questionnaire. Some items in the form were suggested by companies visited in the previous step of the annual cycle, as for example Infrastructure of the lab, Research areas, Number of students and Technical Group entrepreneurship capacity. In addition to them, the following questions were included in the form to allow the crossing of demand and offer capacity:

  • Items of the ACARE taxonomy that the lab can work nowadays, including the Technology Readiness Level (TRL);
  • Example of projects (with companies), related or not with the aerospace sector, and the TRL reached;
  • Facilities and competences to test and simulate aerospace systems and products;
  • rspective for future projects of each lab regarding taxonomy and TRL.

With information about the profile of the Technical Groups of SC2C.Aero and demands from industry, a crossover of Offer X Demand was determined, as shown in the graph. The superposition of them are areas with great potential for R&D&I projects.

3 – Annual Matchmaking:

In this cycle, the matchmaking event was held at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, during May 3rd and 4th, 2018. The event reunited important players of the triple helix, including Alvaro Prata (MCTIC), Mikael Román (Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation-Sweden), Paulo R. Chã (Ministry of Defense), Sergio Gargioni (President of FAPESC), Petter Krus (Innovair-Sweden), José Eduardo Fiates (President of CERTI), Carlos Gurgel (AEB), Alessandra Holmo (CISB).
